EcuTeK Re-Mapped ECU's

EcuTeK Re-Mapped ECUs As accredited agents for EcuTeK, S&J can re-map your standard Subaru or Mitsubishi ECU for an instant performance improvement. We can provide a variety of mapping options depending upon your requirements.
NEWS: S&J Automotive have now been tuning WRXs, STIs, Foresters and Libertys with ECUTEK for over 14 years, and Turbo Lancers for 10 years. All tunes are carried out personally by the owner of the business, Sean, and the fact that he performs these day in day out, gives all clients piece of mind that he would be amongst only a very small group of people world-wide that have had this much experience tuning factory ECUs for these models.

What is EcuTeK?

EcuTeK is the remapping of the factory computer (ECU) available for a wide range of Subaru Turbo & Mitsubishi EVO and Ralliart models

Why do you remap the ECU?

To improve drivability, torque, power and fuel economy of your car. To make the most of each level of performance hardware upgrade reliably, and even tuning standard cars to unleash reserve potential. How is it done? With the ground breaking software that EcuTeK in the UK began developing back in 1999, and continue to do so with a team of 5 engineers, we are actually able retune the factory ECU with a lap top computer through the factory “OBD11” or “Can-Bus” ports so that it still works in entirely the same manner as the manufacturer designed it, with improved maps to suit your needs and/or modifications to your car.

What is a map?

An ECU has between 80 and 300 maps inside, most ECU maps have 2 axis with pre-set values at given load sites, only with EcuTeKs engineered tuning tools do we have the ability to log, evaluated and make accurate changes to each value in each load site.

Why can EcuTeK and S&J achieve so much more than the factory?

  1. We have a one on one relationship with the owner, we can discuss fuel and tune to our South Australian conditions etc.

  2. We are not governed by strict international emission guidelines that were written for different parts of the world.

  3. By fine tuning each car we take out the negative effect of tolerance differences in a mass produced car.

  4. Subaru & Mitsubishi already have an awesome product that the consumer is generally satisfied with, they need not push it anymore!

Facts about EcuTeK, and how a tune can benefit your pride & joy:

  • There has been extensive R&D done on each model at each level by us teamed with MRT & the engineers at EcuTeK.

  • EcuTek develop Tuner friendly software that allows us to focus 100% on our job, providing the maximum power torque & fuel economy safely.

  • EcuTek converts your ECU into a fully laptop tunable unit.

  • You only pay for the level of tune that suits your mods

  • You can be assured that 95% of the technology that goes into the tune of your car is already in the map that we first install, the last 5% that we take the time to do on the dyno is the fine tuning which accounts for the tolerance differences from one car to the next.

  • Our focus is not solely to achieve an increased power figure, but to ensure that ALL engine parameters are tuned carefully for optimum performance, economy & reliability. We have at least one International training/tuning seminar each year at MRT.

  • All Australian EcuTeK tuners work together, we have over the last 14 years all become stronger and much more knowledgeable as a team!

  • With MRT's huge backing we are able to offer both the MRT "Factory Warranty Guarantee" and  "The National Warranty".

  • Our experience with EcuTeK and the factory ECU is without doubt among the greatest within Australia, more than 8 years now.

  • Sean plugs into no less than 4 late model turbo Subarus and Mitsubishis each day to tune, diagnose or just retrieve data.

We insist on using APE's State of the Art Dyno Cell because:

  • The logging and data retrieval from a single power run is incredible, and only limited by our needs for specific data e.g. Fuel pressure/flow, Inj Duty, Knock detection,  Pressure drops, plus much more can all be logged to a single power run.

  • We can actually link the EcuTek Tuning data to display within the power runs, for even more precise plotting & mapping.

  • They have the only IM240 (drive cycle) test equipment in SA that is linked to a Mainline Dyno, which has been incredibly useful.

  • The consistency, accuracy and trueness of all readings.

  • During a tune much more time is spent studying data than actually doing power runs.

  • Not many tunes take more than 4 of 8 second power runs in a very controlled environment (very low stress on your engine & driveline).

  • Limit lines and warnings within the dyno software assure you that, at no time is the engine put under extreme stress, e.g. too lean, hi boost etc.

Here is an example of a WRX that had an exhaust fitted, with minimal gains, then we used EcuTeK to finish the package!

What is RaceROM?

Ecutek Race ROMRaceROM is a suite of feature enhancements available for OEM ECUs tuned with EcuTek tuning tools, which offers increased tuning & driving capabilities. RaceROM is available for specific ranges of engine management systems, initially for Subaru electronic throttle (Drive-by-wire) based ECUs. It will also be available for Nissan GT-R shortly.

Without question, the OEM ECU offers the best cold start, driveability and refinement when compared to aftermarket ECU hardware. However, many aftermarket ECUs provide extra (generally motorsport related) features, that many enthusiasts desire. Unfortunately, when replacing the standard ECU with an aftermarket ECU, the refinement of the standard ECU is often lost.

Now with EcuTek RaceROM, this compromise is no longer necessary. By way of a software upgrade to the standard ECU, RaceROM adds many custom calibration options to the standard OEM ECU, offering features beyond the standard fuelling, ignition and boost control, yet retaining its driveability, sophistication and fuel economy.

Custom Maps

RaceROM Custom Maps allow the tuner to modify the behaviour of the factory ECU by inserting additional maps into the ECU's normal calculations for parameters such as ignition timing, fuel, boost & VVT, and even repurpose inputs and outputs to measure custom sensors or solenoids not featured on the standard vehicle.

This facility lets you add custom compensations or even completely replace the calculations that are normally used. For example:

  • Per gear fuel enrichment factor.
  • Vechicle speed based ignition retard.
  • Torque reduction for engine oil temperature.
  • Throttle reduction for airflow.
  • Torque reduction for wheel speed differential.
  • E85 enrichment factor for injection volume.
  • Custom traction control strategies for wheel speed differential.

Downshift Auto-Blip

The Auto Blip feature applies a short burst of throttle when the driver is down-shifting under braking. This raises the RPM to help provide a smooth entry into the lower gear by reducing engine braking.

Flat-foot Shifting

Flat-foot Shifting allows you to keep your foot flat on the accelerator while changing gears, to minimise your gear change time and keep engine speed and torque up for when the next gear is engaged.

We also adjust the torque to maximise power when engaging the next gear.

Flex Fuel

The RaceROM Flex Fuel system provides calibration options to import an ethanol content sensor to the factory ECU and allows custom compensations based on the percentage of ethanol in the fuel system. This is done automatically and requires no user intervention once the system has been calibrated correctly, you don't need to switch maps or have a separate tune. You just get in the car, fill it up, and drive.

Note: Power gains from E-85 fuel over 98-Ron fuel exceed 20kw at the wheels in most cases!

Launch Control

Exactly as it sounds "Launch Control" allows us to tune a predetermined stationary RPM limit that once activated and launched will progressively allow the engine to accelerate to its fixed RPM limit therefore providing greater traction, consistency and driveline reliability vs launching your car without the aid!

Note: Some models allow the extra feature of "User Adjust Launch Control RPM Limits".

Map Switching

Map switching provides separate customisable tuning modes, which can be changed on-the-fly by the driver using either the cruise control switchgear or the defog-switch (dependant on car model).

These modes can be customised to provide bespoke settings such as:

  •  Valet mode - Limits enabled so that the Engine RPM is limited or the torque is limited.
  • Economy Mode - The car is tuned to provide the best fuel economy but with reduced performance.
  • Race Mode - High power mode for track use.
  • Dual Fuel Mode - Settings for different fuel types such as E85 or high quality race fuel.

The map switching also works with other RaceROM features such as Launch Control, Flat-foot Shifting, Throttle Auto-blip or Speed Density. It can also be combined with the RaceROM Custom Maps to enable custom features and functions under certain conditions.

We pride ourselves here at S & J as being one of Australia's Leading tuners of Subaru's and to us tuning is exactly that, not just achieving a high peak dyno figure, we are renown for our improvements to torque, power, drivability and fuel economy with no compromise to reliability!
